HYMAG’IN presents FILAMAG-F, the first magnetic filament for additive manufacturing of EMC solutions. FILAMAG-F extends design possibilities and helps customers to perfectly adapt EMI products to the specific geometries of their electronic systems.
Electronic designers, RF and EMC engineers: it’s time to innovate 3D!
HYMAG’IN expands its portfolio with FILAMAG-F, the first commercial filament designed for the additive manufacturing of RF microwave absorbers.
FILAMAG-F has been specifically developed to reduce Electromagnetic Interferences (EMI) in the 0.2 - 20 GHz frequency range. This frequency range is of particular interest. It covers some of the most widespread telecommunication uses: 3G to 5G, GNSS, wifi and Bluetooth.
Additive manufacturing of RF microwave absorbers is dedicated to:
- nearfield noise suppression: customise your absorbers to the specific geometry of your component and PCB, and make them easier to use by automating their production and installation.
- cavity resonance: adapt your absorbers to your complex electronic system (gaps, wires, connectors) and even print a composite case with EMI reduction properties.
- free space reflection reduction: develop innovative designs to improve performances on a narrow band, or at the opposite to enlarge the frequency band.
FILAMAG-F is made of a flexible polymer matrix and 70%w of magnetic additive.
E-mobility, autonomous vehicles, wireless charging and new telecom technologies are just some of the challenges RF product designers will have to face in the coming years. It will result in smaller and more complex electronic systems. RF microwave absorbers have a key role to play in these developments. As a first step into the world of additive manufacturing, FILAMAG-F is a disruptive technology for developing RF absorbers for next-generation electronics.
3D printed honeycomb for free space applications
Additive manufacturing makes it possible to explore synergies between design and wave-matter interaction. Here is an example of a 3D honeycomb pattern designed to absorb at 10 GHz. Its EM characterisation showed a significant reflection losses of -45 dB at 10 GHz with a significant gain of x 12 in the performance/weight ratio in comparison to a sheet of the same thickness.
HYMAG’IN, dedicated to develop innovative electromagnetic solutions
HYMAG'IN produces and sells several ranges of innovative ferrite-based magnetic materials. We propose ultrafine ferrite powders or semi-finished products for additive manufacturing, such as magnetic filaments. HYMAG'IN products are aimed at aerospace, defense, automotive and telecom markets.
In addition to its catalogue of products, HYMAG’IN accompanies its customers in the development of tailor-made electromagnetic solutions:
- Exploration of ferrites formulations;
- Development of filaments with specific polymers and different ferrite loading rates;
- Printing prototypes and characterisation of their EM properties.
